How different are these 2 models? Ive seen a couple of prelude's around my city that have "Type S" emblem on them. Thought they werent available in the USA. Is it possible to upgrade a SH to a Type S ?

More then likely, its someone who removed the Type SH badge and put Type S on there instead...
Yes you can "upgrade" you would need to change internals on your engine though... new pistons and such

it probably is someone who just slapped a "type-s" sticker on there. the type-s is engine that can be purchased with a large sum of money. i would highly doubt that any of those ludes have that engine since it does cost over $4000 with only a 20hp difference when compared to the h22a.

If its just a 20hp difference, then its just aint worth it then.

the only way it would be worth someone to upgrade to a type s is if they want something different. something special that no one else has. thats why i did it. i love the car im glad when i sold it i sold it to my stepbrother so its still close. anyone in the southern minnesota area who see's a black "type s" prelude maybe you should check if its got teh jdm motor...cuz it probly does

There are a few differences between the JDM Type S and the USDM Type SH. I might be wrong about some of these, but I'll list what I think is different:

The intake design is a little different, I think the throttle body is different, as are the pistons and camshafts. I think there are some other internal differences, but I dont remember what they might be. The valve cover is red. And then there are the Type-S badges. Also, I think those JDM foglights are standard on the Type S, but I'm not postive about that. The Type S should also have a different front lip than the US model.

Its possible to upgrade your car to the Type S. You can do an engine swap, or I assume you can just switch out all the parts for Type S parts. But it seems like that would be a fairly involved process, not that replacing the engine is any easier. And I dont think itsworth it considering how much money and work you'll put into this for a 20hp increase.
