Default how old is too old?

i grew up hearing that you should replace your timing set at 100,000 to be safe. that was on old v8's and v6's with the chain and 2 sprokets. i own a '90 accord ex- is 100,000 a good round number for the timing a balance belt replacement interval?? i heard 75,000 so thats got me questioning. thanks

well my care was done roughly 15-20k before i got it so i should be good for a while but my brother-n-law has the same car just a dx and he's got to be getting close to 100k and i'm gettin worried for him havin to get a new motor...what are the chances that when the teeth go on the belt that it won't crush the valves? i know he owns a 89 toyota 4runnner with a 22r motor and when the timing set went on it, the valves were inset in the heads enough (b/c of how they are made) that they wouldn't get crushed. just wondering b/c i'm learning about these hondas as i grew up learning fords and stinkin chevy's. thanks guys! oh and is there any info you can give me on the balance shafts and what the point of them are? what are they connected to at the flywheel/flexplate end of the motor? thanks

For the 90-97 Accord F22, Honda recommends every 90,000 miles OR 10 years. As was mentioned above, get the timing-belt, tensioner, balance shaft belt, oil seal and water pump replaced all at once. I tried to let my tensioner and seals ride until the 2nd belt service at 180,000 miles... but my seals began leaking at 160,000 and forced me to go ahead and do an early timing belt change. Since your car is 6 years older, I highly recommend geting it all done the first time around.

60,000 mile timing belt interval went out with the demise of the 89 Accord. Honda raised it again in 98 to 105,000 miles. Now I believe it's 110,000 for the 7th gens.

Default Actually

most id right, at first timing belt interval change i would as he stated change the camshaft belt and balance shaft bely and water pump of course, here , on all cars at point of changing timing belts here in Thailand i always like mitsubishis such as 6G72 or anny car that has a timing belt that drives the water pump i change that also, most these have auto tensioners and auto tensioners onlee tighten not loosen, so upon changing the camshaft belt i would definatlly change teh water pump. teh water pump for accords are same frum 90-02 Fseries engine lol. trust meeh i kno lol.
