my 5 gen accord lx recently has some problem with the brake.
Everytime i step on the brake at a mid-high speed (let's say above 45 or 50)
the steering will shake real bad, if the speed is faster the more worse shake from the steering. Any idea where is wrong with my brake? I don't think is the tire problem cause i just do the balance and normal driving, the steering is straight forward. Thanks for all help//

 

You could have a major warped rotor or two, or a failing wheel bearing.

I once over torqued a set of S10 FWB and created much the same effect.

yea i get the same problem wit my 5gen accord as well...its kinda annoying...first thing i thought about was the front tires...then i bought all new tires and i still get the same shit...now i know its the rotors. if it were the bearings wouldnt it shake all the time? rather than when you step on the brakes?

 

Under constant load the bearings (driveline) may not experience any shake, but it could start to bind under partial load, braking, causing the shudder. This was my S10 bearing conclusion.

I'd look at new rotors first, but since it's a 5th gen, this is a non DIY service part so you might as well have your dealer or mechanic of choice look into the entire issue. It will cost you the same anyhow.

 

yea i already tried changing them myself..i didnt know they had to be pressed off with a machine. so i ended up changing just the pads since i thought the rotors were in good condition. not scratched up or rusted on the edges.. so i returned the rotors thinking the shake was being made by the tires...whats a good way to avoid warped rotors in the future? i was thinking about getting some drilled or slotted rotors to help them cool down a bit when stopped.
any ideas?

 

Car washes and such after a hard drive can warp rotors, but if yours are the OE rotors--they may just be plain old and worn thin, this will cause warping and likely time for a replacement any how.

also, if you have major uneven wear on your brake pads, you'll warp rotors.

 

so, what you guy saying is i have a warped rotors and this is a non DIY project. If I don't change it now, will it screw up some other part on my brake system? If I do take it to shop and get it fixed. How much do you think its about (labor +OE part)?

 

My best guess? $80 bucks for the pair of front rotors for labor.
You could buy the rotors your self online for about $30ea.
While you are at it have them check to verify that the rotors are the key and not something else as well.
