You do not need to purchase the warranty at the time of purchase, for you can get one prior to the manufacturer's new vehicle warranty expiring, or even after it has.
So, put simply...stick with the HondaCare warranties ONLY

AND

wait until 24 months or 24,000 miles to decide if you want it. That is the cutoff before the warranty gets more expensive (+$60, I think).

Default Extended Warranties

I had purchased a Honda Care extended warranty for my 1995 Accord when I purchased it new. Paid $965.00 for it which was the biggest mistake I had ever made in buying a car. Never used the warranty! It was like taking $965.00 and burning it in my fireplace.

Do remember though a friend of mine bought new a 1998 Accord V-6 and opted not to buy the warranty. Unfortunately for him, he went through 3 transmissions . The first one was covered at 31K but the second and third were not. He know drives a Toyota Camry XLE V-6 and would never buy another Honda again. In short, he had a lemon which was quiet common that year!

See, now, you weren't supposed to say anything to put more doubt into my mind. I'm wavering between both the Accord and the Camry, and most people sing the praises of both. But now I've heard a few horror stories about both, as well. I'm the type who's fearful of making the "wrong" choice when it comes to such a large expense. The stalemate continues....

Extended Warranties are like Medical Insurance. You only need them, when something goes wrong! I always purchase an extended warranty on all my vehicles; (new, used, domestic and foreign), and over the time period of the warranty, I always break even on the purchase price, and sometimes, I make money on the warranty because the cost of the repair far exceeds the cost of the Extended Warranty. -----Tanya

At least with HondaCare, I feel its worth every penny. If you plan
to keep your car for a long time (some of us do) its a very good investment.

if you have an auto tranny the extended warranty might not be so useless. honda auto trannies arent exactly known for their quality.

If you're concerned about the Honda a/t - why not get the 6 speed? And if you're trying to decide between a Camry and an Accord, I'd be concerned about the infamous Toyota oil sludge problem that affects both their 4 cyl and 6 cyl engines. They reluctantly are picking up the tab to repair/replace those engines in the Camry, but only after consumer groups and pukehead lawyers went after them. Don't know details/don't really care, because Toyotas are far from favs of mine. My sisters' Corolla engine died with less than 70k miles due to the same oil sludge issue and she had to threaten Toyota and the dealer with a lawsuit if they didn't repair the engine. Eventually they agreed, but it got ugly, 'cause my sister is a mean old witch.
