Default 94 Accord ABS Problem

I've owned my accord for 8 years now, I have never had any major problems or any problem at all. One day the ABS lights just lit up. I've changed the Motor relay and was unsucessful. I've added oil into the ABS reservoir and that too was unsucessful. I've cleaned all four of the sensors on the wheels and the light still comes on.

The ABS light doesn't alway comes on. It seems like the light comes on when ever it feels like it. Usually if I leave the car sitting for about 1 to 2 hours unignited and then ignite it, the light goes off. It doesn't come back on until a while of driving or leaving the car ignited for about 30mins to an hour. If I ignite the car 3 time consectively, the ABS light would come on again. Can anyone tell me what the problem is without telling me to take it to the DEALER. Without even doing anything the DEALER wanted to replace my whole modulator which cost about 1400 bucks. The breaks works really nicely, but the ABS yellow/orange light annoys the crap out of me. Sometime while driving on the freeway, the light would come on instantly.. After drving with the light on for 10 or 15 mins, I would kick it to nuetral and kill the engine and restart it again. At that point the ABS light would go off for about 30 mins or 15 to another 20 miles and then light up again. What could be wrong? I've heard that the 94 and 95 accord has a lot of problems with the ABS.

Hey you may want to make sure all your brakes are properly off. If you leave the E brake on and drive teh car they light will go on. Therefor the ABS turns itself off because something was acting on it (The E Brake being on). SO basically you want to check and make sure all your brakes are properly put on. Maybe make sure your e brake inst to tight and maybe loosen it a little bit.

These are just some ideas before you shell out 1400 bucks.

Hope i was of some help

k i checked it out. All i can say is if none of your brakes are rubbing or are on to tight then this may be causeing your light to go on. When a car has ABS the braking system is a computer. If teh computer sences that the breaks are on or may be acting on the pads what so ever the light will go on. When the light goes on this means your ABS is not on. This happens so that you will not wear your system down. This is pretty much all i know about ABS and i dont even have it on my car. This is as far as i can take you on the subject. Howver my brother knows a lot about cars and he could probably help you out a lot more than i can. Email him and send him teh link for teh board so he can understand your problem. He should be at his computer now so give it a try. We are both currently at work. Jared.h.bazarnik@questdiagnostics.com

tell him i sent you (Jordan)

Thanks

check out my friends site, here, he has instructions how to diagnose check engine and ABS lights. They are for a 97 CL, but the codes are the same for a 5th gen Accord.

Usually cleaning the sensors is not enough, as its the sensor itself that goes bad, and these are usually the culprit of that little light being on. I need to change one of my sensors too, but I dont have the $100 or so to buy one, so I just unplugged my ABS computer in the passenger side kick panel till I can get a sensor, this way I dont have to stare at that light. I'll warn you though, the brakes are rather sensitive without the ABS, they lock up pretty easily, so be careful to not flat-spot your tires.

Could a wheel sensor do that.. I can get the sensor for 20 percent off without tax. If a wheel sensor goes bad wouldn't the ABS light stay on permenantly ?? My 94 accord ABS kinda have a mind of it's own. Like I said before, in the morning or if the car has been sitting for about 1 or 2 hours the first ignite the light doesn't show up, if I am lucky the second ignite the light doesn't show up, but usually on the 3rd ignite it does, and I am not even moving just the engine is ignited and it still comes on.. Still think it's the wheel sensor? Thanks
