ABS is a very very good idea, and it does work wonders. It has saved lives, and I'm sure most people love it. I don't have ABS in my car, but I like it. I feel like I have more control over my car without it. When I drive cars with ABS, it feels uncomfortable during braking...mabye it's just because I'm not used to it. But I like not having it.

ABS fan here. I was almost going to buy a Miata that didn't have it, but I found one that did and snapped it up that same day.

The only time my ABS ever came into play, it failed. Granted, this was while I was sliding on 2 inches of ice, but still h:

ABS works on the principle that a rolling tire has a higher coefficient of friction with asphalt/concrete/assorted other surfaces than a skidding tire. Thus it works to keep your tires rolling instead of skidding, thereby maximizing your traction. The maximum available traction on ice ain't exactly what I would call high to begin with, so ABS is only going to do so much.

yeah, thats what I used the h: face

I wasn't expecting it to do anything...although I still cursed it as I slid halfway through a red light while I was madly pumping the brakes h:
