105,000 mile service
My service manual says that I should have the cars timing belt changed and have the water pump checked. Called the dealership that I bought it from last year just to get an idea of what they recommend and charge for this 105k service. The guy was going on about checking the cam shaft, replacing the water pump, replacing the timing belt along with every other belt and on and on. Totaling 500-700 dollars. Obviously I am going to take it to a certified mechanic not the dealership but what should I honestly look and expect to replace? The vehicle has driven perfect since I have owned it at 93K. Thank you.
If you bought it at 93k miles, try & find out about service history. Many people/shops change the timing belt & waterpump at 90k miles, so maybe your's was already done? If so, make sure you are convinced it was actually done.
It is a 98 V6. I have all records and they don't indicate that the belt was changed. I did look at the timing belt and it has no cracks at all but don't know if you can even tell by looking at it. My question is really regarding all of the other items such as the water pump and cam shaft. Thanks.
There's no need to do anything with the camshaft. I have a feeling that you're probably a little noobish on car repair, so are you referring to getting your valves adjusted?
The Timing Belt and water pump are preventative maintenance. Get it done and enjoy peace of mine, or save some money and drive around with the old ones and hope that your engine doesn't get ****ed up because your water pump fails or your belt breaks. Do a search.

All the drive belts( your case two of them) need to come off anyway
to do the timing belt, so might as well change them anyway.
I agree that they were talking about valve adjustment, and on a
V6 there is good chance they were never done, so good investment.
Make sure the mechanic uses factory parts.

The place I take my car too here said that they change out the water pump and timing belt at the same time because if the water pump were to go with a new timing belt I would have to buy another timing belt. I suggest you get it changed along with the pump. Dont skimp on the timing belt. It it breaks you are in trouble...
My shop qouted me 1K for the work. I feel it is worth it. It is a small family owned Foriegn Car shop that a lot of car dealerships used around town if they take a Foriegn car in on trade. ( If you can beleive that someone would actually trade in thier Foriegn car for a Domestic )
just my .02

you definitely need the timing belt done.
While they are there, definitely change all the other belts, and water pump as well.
