Default manual-less 5 speed?

I have a 93' Accord lx. A friend suggested that I dont need to use the clutch while stop n go driving on city streets. Clutchless shifting? Is this OK. Its got to be bad on the tran? Any comments would be nice, I dont want her to drop. Thanks all and peace

Clutchless shifting works better when you have a low inertia flywheel and/or a sequential gearbox such as on a motorcycle.

I wouldn't do it in a car if you want any likd of life out of the tranny.

Even on a motorcycle which has a sequential gearbox whci his better able ot handle that type of shifting, it will still cause significantly increased wear on the shift forks.

I don't understand why you would want to avoid using the clutch. I've know about the technique for a while but I've never understood the need to shift without using the clutch. what performance advantage is there? to my knoweldge there is nothing you will gain, so what is the point???? besides being lazy.

Yeah, why the hell would you want to risk damage to your transmission for no reason? Makes no sense.

The clutch is there for a reason.
Just like the muffler and cat is on the car for a reason.

because its the cool thing to do.
It must drop a few seconds off your time in your raced up accord......

Just like you this makes no sense to me.
Out of all the 5spd cars I've had. I always used the clutch.
All I can picture right now is hearing that grinding noise when you accidently dont get it into the gear all the way ( because of shifting to quick )

Im sure that noise is louder when you dont use the clutch.

There really needs to be a Quote of the Day feature on HAN. Like front page.

This quote for sure wins today's QOTD.

I have never really understood people who say they dont use the clutch if there is a real reason why they do this or why they think this is a good idea or where the idea came from that would be nie to know.

My clutch and trans is factory original with 280,000+ miles on it... I'm pretty sure that if I didn't use the clutch all the time I'd have trans problems, but as it is, the only "problem" I have is a little bit of side-to-side slop in the stick (just enough that you can feel it wiggle), but I'm guessing that's just because it's got a lot of wear.

In response to your comment as to why it is ok, it's only ok if you can hit the RPM's right and get it to synch, otherwise it will grind... and grinding isn't usually a happy sound...
