Default How should I fix this

I would like some input on how I should handle this damage on my 02 Accord. The car was ass punched by a motorcycle and the rear bumper was slightly ripped away and a basically punched in the lower edge of my rear quarter panel and placed a small dent right above the taillight. The insurance apraised the car and estimated the fix at around 1100.00. After they took pictures of the car and left, I removed the rear bumper myself and inspected the full damage, the rear bumper beam and all of the supports are fully intact and damage free, I tried the heat gun trick on the bumper cover and worked the punch out with my wrist, the only real damage is on the lower metal panel and the side vent when they were pushed in. I can replace the plastic vent myself and just leave the rest of this metal panel alone besides touching up the paint where it flaked off, since you won't see it once the bumper is back on anyway, so all that's left is a new Honda OEM bumper cover and the car will be back to better, except the dent which I can live with. I have attached pictures of the after accident damage, the underneath damage and the difference seem from the inside, between the unharmed 99 Accord and the punched 02 sedan, there is a noticable difference, but it will be covered up inside and out. I guess my question is should I let the Honda collision center fix the car for 1100.00 minus my 500.00 deductible which will include a a new rear quarter panel to fix the lower damage and the dent, a new bumper cover, a new taillight and even a new V6 logo for the bumper, or I can use the insurance money to fix it myself, while still using all OEM Honda replacment parts to fix everything except the dent and the lower panel which won't even be visible to anyone anyway. Sorry for the long story and I am open for any comments/suggestions.

If i were you, id try a DIY. In the long run, you should be able to save some money and pocket the remainder. Installing a rear bumper shouldnt be difficult at all. I may have missed something in the pictures, but i dont think a new rear quarter panel is required

The bumper won't be hard to replace at all, I just have to find a place that will paint it for me. The Honda collision center wants to replace the quarter panel because there is a six inch long dent from the motorcycle's handlebar, right above the tail light. They wrote up a detailed estimate which included all new oem Honda parts, including a new v6 emblem, something I just would have reused from the old bumper. I guess if I fix the car myself, I could probably just live with the dent and not worry about that even though it haunts me everytime I walk past it. I am just worried about the insurance company coming back and saying it wasn't fixed properly, but I plan on ordering the Honda parts online to save some money, and keep all the receipts as proof of the parts being replaced.

yeah. if your not going to fix inside of it and just fix the bumper and the lights just take the money insurance is offering and do it yourself... its just bumpers and taillights.. you'll save an arm and and leg and get some extra cash in hand...

you can probably buy the parts off on ebay or some other honda forum, if not this one, for 100 and get it painted for another 100 or 2..

Was your exhuast damage from this accident.. might want to check it to see there are any cracks..

That is a very good point, I never really checked for any operational damage to the exhaust. The car hasn't made any unusual sounds since the accident. A few months back I sanded down the chiped/peeling paint from the mufflers and repainted them with High Temp paint, but the pressure hose from the car wash chipped off some of the paint, guess I'll touch that up while I fix the rest. Thanks for the tip.

If you were rear-ended, why are you paying a deductible? This should be 100% the responsibility of the cyclist.

Default car

I was pulling out of a side street making a left turn, I looked both ways and to the right again, then I pulled out, and from around the blind curve comes a speeding motorcycle. I didn't see him until he hit the back of the car. The bike had highway bars that stick out on the sides, and that's what caught the edge of the bumper cover and pulled it away from the car, and the handlebar put the dent above the taillight. The bike stayed upright without a scratch to rider or the bike. The only damage was to the chrome bar that tore away my bumper. The guy was bitchin saying"This is a $20,000 bike", but I kept my mouth shut, I should have told him my car was around 24-25 grand when it was new too, oh well no one was hurt, so thats good.
