Default ignition key hard to turn

When I either shut my 95 accord off or turn it on the ignition key catches and I have to work it back and forth and sometimes get a little aggressive with it to get it to turn. Is it in my ignition or someone tried telling me that it might be in my shifter not allowing it some how to release. Any body ever have something like this happen? Thanks!

Default key

I had a similar situation with the ignition key on my old 89 Accord. When it was cold out and if the car wasn't fully warmed up, the car would turn off, but the key wouldn't push in during the last turn to remove it, and other times the auto shift lever wouldn't move out of park without the manual override. It replaced the shift selector in the console that tells the lights on the dash what gear the car is in and I never had the problem again. If it's an auto, try moving the shift lever back and forth in the park position while removing the key.

I have a 95 Accord EX and had the same problem about a year ago. I had to have the ignition replaced, along with a new set of keys.

Thanks for the info. I have tried moving the shift lever back and forth with no luck. The way it feels it is going to be a new ingition. Thanks again!

I had the same issue with my old 94 Accord , where you had to insert the key a bit partially out and turn the key, cause if you didn't it just wouldnt turn.

I'm pretty sure it can't hurt to lube it. Put a little oil on the key then insert it and remove it a couple of times, turn it etc.
I've had to do that with house locks, which evan though very different, require a little maintenance sometimes. Most things like this come greased from the factory, but after 10 years it needs to be serviced.

I have the same problem with my 95 accord ex v6... but only in the morning.. so I am pretty sure its the cold, cause afternoons it comes out fine (they tend to be alot warmer) but its been like this for a year... i just eventually get it out, sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes though. It makes me look like an ass.

I stick to my story!
Just dab a little 30 Wt on it. It can't make it turn any worse.

For lube on a lock I'd use graphite instead of a heavy oil.

Your key could be worn out. If you have two keys, try the other one to see if it acts the same way.
