I'm pretty sure it can't hurt to lube it. Put a little oil on the key then insert it and remove it a couple of times, turn it etc.
I've had to do that with house locks, which evan though very different, require a little maintenance sometimes. Most things like this come greased from the factory, but after 10 years it needs to be serviced.
