Default Wacky Things, Please Help

Hey guys,
Ok let me tell some history, I have a 1994 Accord EX auto, The ABS light was on and the code was for both rear ABS sensors. I replaced them and the light went away.

Tonight as I was driving home the car went nuts, all instruments on the cluster started going up and down, fuel gauge dropped to zero, RPM's rose to 8k, and the speedo read as 140, temp gauge also dropped to zero. Out of utter terror I babied her home, thought it wasnt running very bad.....At present the gauges are still whacked and the idle is very high 1500-2000 rpms...Oh and the ABS light came on again, no check engine though.

Is it the ECU?? I pray it is, can anyone help?

Also I could hear a ticking sound from around the passenger side, like in the dash or farther up.

are you sure that the ticking isn't coming from inside the engine compartment, and not from inside the dash?

Well its in that general area, possibly even near the ABS relay area. My father was describing it to me and having me post it on here. I just cant grasp the idea of the ABS stuff affecting the instrument cluster...

Check the wiring diagrams in the shop manual if you have one. See what the instrument cluster and ABS is run off of. If they both share a same system, it could be the problem.

There's relays and such near the ABS on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Start up the car and listen to see if its coming from that area. I believe the ECU for your car is under the flooring of the passenger front seat where it meets the firewall (at least it is on my 93, and they're very similar even if the body's different). You should be able to peel back the carpeting where it terminates under the dash to reveal a metal kick panel behind which resides the ECU. You may have to remove some plastic paneling in the footwell to get the carpet to peel back well.

Keep in mind I'm basing this off the 4th gen, and not the 5th gen Accord, and some of the info may be inaccurate. Both generations share many parts. Good luck.

5th gen accords have the ecu in the same place... his directions will work for your car. If you look down there, see if there is any water in the area of the ecu... theres always the possibility of it getting in there somehow (leaking heater core, plugged A/C drain) and it can definatly do some damage to electronics. The ABS computer is also in that area, only to the right of the passengers foot well... behind the plastic kick-panel.

Check all your fuses as well (carefully) both under the hood and next to the pedals.

errmmmmm...ok...

Sounds like a loose wiring harness then. Where did this mechanic stick his hand down by the engine at? Front? Passengerside firewall? If you know, it could probably isolate the problem pretty well for the other individual with the same symptoms as you had.
