um, you wont' feel any difference.. its just something you should do every 90k or so... take off the cam gear cover and inspect the timing belt and act as you think you should.

You cant judge whether to change a timing belt based on a visual inspections. Our cars have interference type engines; snapping a timing belt can cause serious valvetrain damage. Follow the recommendations which are based on age/mileage which vary based on what year car you have.

You wont notice any perfomance change. Its preventative maintenance, like changing your oil.

Let me clear that up, changing your oil with a lot of miles you'll actually notice a difference.. like 8,000 on the oil and change it, you'll feel it. but the timing belt will not change performance. also in all helms manuals it says to inspect the wear on the timing belt so i'm going by the helms.

You wont notice any difference in performance changing your oil at those intervals. BMW's and others take their cars past that for changes. Some people with synthetic go even longer. Unless your oil has turned to glue, you wont notice any differences, and unless your timing belt is slipping, you wont notice any differences there either.

Using Visual inspection for your timing belt is like using it to check your tire pressures. Unless its really falling apart, you wont be able to tell when its time to be changed.

Honda dealerships do a package for around $550 that does timing belt/water pump. A little pricy, and I'd only do it if you have good maintenance records for your car that go back a long way that you keep track of. I did mine thru Honda, then again, I have Honda records of all work done on the car all the way back to September 1993, including oil changes, repairs, maintenance, the works. I only go there now for repairs/mainttenance as I have a hard time coughing up $28 (with tax) for an oil change.

Not everyone has a good place, tools or the know how to do this sort of work. Nothing wrong with having work done on your car. Better to know when you are in over your head.
