Hi,

I'm relatively new to car repairing. I have a honda accord 96 4cylinder. My Engine check light is on. One of the roadside mechanic told me to change the EGR Valve, then I decided to clean the EGR Valve myself. I cleaned the valve 3 times but after 2 or 3 days light kept coming. I took the car to dealer he said that EGR ports are clogged. He gave me $300 estimate. Is there any way I can clean the clogged ports myself. I searched on the net but I couldn't find any documents relating to this. I appricate any help.

I have a 97 V6 and I had the same problem. Turned out that my EGR valve was working well, but the ports were dirty. The extended emissions warranty took care of the cost but the cleaning took care of the problem. You could buy a Chiltons/Hanes manual and attempt to do it yourself if you are mechanically inclined. Good Luck!

 

If your car is the same as a 94 Accord EX VTEC then I can send you a PDF file which shows some pics of what has to be done.

I was able to do it in a few hours on my car last weekend. It isn't too hard to do....I wish I could get $300 for doing something so easy!
