Default Rear Disc Brake Conversion

Has anyone done a rear disc brake conversion from drums to discs on a 5th gen accord? if so, i'd appreciate some advice and all the parts i'd need for the conversion. so far, i think i can just swap the parts from an ex: calipers, shoes, discs. there's already a brake line going to the drums, so i can just extend that or swap that if necessary. thanks

I've thought about doing this as well. The theory is that you could hit up a junkyard and get an 5th gen EX axle with the disc brake assembly and put it on the LX. You'd need some new wiring and to change the ebrake setup as well as a new slave cylinder. Thats just for starters though. I speculated on this with someone who had a good idea of what it would take but we don't know whether it would work or not.

I had done it on my 3rd gen Accord (LX-i to SE-i) and to be honest it wasn't worth all the trouble. To me it didnt feel to stop at all faster, but the crossed drilled rotors at all 4 corners looked pretty cool.

It maybe different for the 5th gens though, just telling you my experience.

90% of braking power is from the front I heard. sOo, I think doing a drum to disk conversoin in the rear is a waste of money.

I have. :wavey: I bought the conversion and they gave me the whole rear suspension including the rear shocks. I can't tell you exatly what parts you'll need because when I did it, I replaced the whole rear suspension with one from an EX. It was a lot easier this way becasue everything was already assembled. You have to use EX brake lines and you have to replace the parking brake cables. Those are the hardest to install because you have to get under the car and remove the exhaust and heat shields. I also took out the ABS sensors since the car doesn't have ABS. I tried using the rear sway bar but it wouldn't bolt up becasue the LX rear cross member doesn't have the holes to mount it up.

I didn't have to rewire anything so I don't know what you're talking about. As for changing the ebrake setup, all I had to do was move the nut that adjusts the parking brake handle. As for a new slave cylinder, thats part of the clutch and I didn't touch that. If you were referring to changing the master cylinder, I didn't replace mine. I know some people who replaced it with one from an Accord EX but they tell me there's no difference in performance.

I agree that its a waste. I didn't see any difference in braking. However, I only paid $175 for the conversion and it looks nice with big wheels and x-drilled rotors.

sorry bout that, good to hear from someone who knows anyways. I really just speculated on what it might take with some friends so i wasnt sure. Its nice that you got the kit that cheap. Let me know where you got it from. I'd be interested in doing it purely for aesthetics.

Personally don't think it's worth the time/effort. But the biggest advantage with the 4-wheel-discs is the heat dissapation. Drums tend to fade a lot quicker than discs. If you autocross or do a great deal of fooling around on back roads, it may be worth it. If you just want to look cool, I wouldn't bother.

I have thought about it a little bit...the thing is I do mess around on back roads. There is this one that I have only done once because its about 2-4 miles long and by the time I got to the end and tured around I didnt have much stopping power left, kinda scary.
But then again like PmPiNAzNBoI said 90% of braking power is from the front I heard. So it seems like it would be better to spend the money on upgrading the front brakes. I'm to the point I dont care so much about looks, I want performance.
