Default When She Begins to Feel Old...

Any of you people feel like it's just soon time to say goodbye to your Accord? I mean, like, I have had my San Marino EX V6 since Halloween of 1998 (coming up on her anniversary soon, I guess) and now that she has 45,000 miles and has been in the body shop already because a stupid chick in a Pathfinder rearended me and has gotten a new bumper, plus other various happenings, I feel as though maybe there has just been too much that has gone into this car to maintain her....

Before I was rearended in the accident, the bumper of this car was really, really taking a beating: when I bought my subwoofer box, the guys that were putting it in my trunk (my friend who installed everything, and the fat bastard who owned the audio shop where my friend used to work) dropped the damn box right on my bumper, putting a big scratch on there. I touched it up, but didnt look right. Then, someone somewhere scrapes my bumper with their car and leaves a huge blemish and scrape; days later, I come out of a blockbuster video to find some asshole backing up right into my bumper----in the same spot---with his Maxima; more damage to the bumper. Plus, I had at least 10 dings and dents all over my doors which I had removed by a "Dent X" guy who came down and fixed them at my apartment complex.

Then, I get into the accident where the girl hit me in the back, and so the car goes to the body shop---and to be honest, it kind of worked out because that bumper NEEDED to be redone; it looked like shit even after a guy came down to wetsand the damaged area of the bumper---and when it comes out of the body shop, the rear OEM underbody skirt doesnt look the same----I can see a definite difference. In the beginning, when looking at the car from the side, I wasnt able to see the tailpipes because the rear skirt was kinda low. Now, since getting the car back, I can see the tailpipes clearly from the sides, so something is different. It's no longer OEM specs, I think.

One person on here told me the shop probably gave me remanufactured parts, and they are not OEM spec. Now, after the body work, I have brought the car in for two blown tail lights, an ignition recall notice, services up the ass, tire rotations, low air in the tires and all kinds of other shit....Im getting tired of all the things I have to put into this friggin' car to make her run and look right. I know the accident wasnt my fault, and it can happen anywhere, but as soon as an accident happens, the car is NEVER the same again, and here is proof.

I wanna get rid of her so bad, because she just doesnt feel like the car she once was, people. But I cant; for personal financial reasons I outlined in my last post, I have to hold onto her. Anyone else feel like they are just growing old with their Accords? And I dont mean you guys with the new 7th gens---:fawk: I mean those of us with fifth and sixth generation models.

Should I make a big deal out of this rear OEM underbody skirt issue, or just leave it and accept it for what it is? Nobody would notice this if I didnt point it out, but I know its there and that it looks different. The body shop definitely used (although they claimed they used authentic factory parts) different pieces to re-do the bumper and underbody skirt....

I have a 1996 Accord with 100,000 miles (I bought it with only 45k miles) and it does not feel that old to me... nor has it required much in maintenance (I didnt even have to lift the hood other than for oil changes until almost 90,000 miles) I have heard, however, that 6th gen V6s arent as problem free...which is why I am debating trading my 5th gen in for a 2004 V6 coupe. My car has been rear ended three times, twice by a Toyota 4runner and a third time by a Mitsubishi Galant. All three accidents caused significant damage... but my local Honda delaership did a decent repair job and I have had no further problems that could be related to the accident. As with any car, however, you can always tell where it has been repaired... even with the use of factory components. I see small traces of discoloration, and a lot of hidden overspray. Also, the bumper, trunk and tail lamps don't match up as perfectly as they did from the factory. I've owned 5 cars alltogether.. and 3 of them have been rearended and the results were the same. In all cases, however... the accidents did not stem further problems other than bulb blow outs, water in trunk or tail lights, and rear end suspension noises. My Accord has not had any of these problems even after three blows to the butt...still feels solid and middle-aged, not old. It feels like it will easily go another 100 grand. Gotta love those little F22 4 bangers.

Thanks for your input. Although I believe that the problems you encountred after the accidents were significant enough to warrant a different response other than "did not seem to stem further problems other than....bulb burnouts, water in trunk/tail lights, rear end suspension noises..." I think these are significant post-accident happenings, dont you?

i'm actually opposite...i'ma run my baby to the ground...mostly for financial reasons (i want a new car after i graduate from grad school)...but...after i got i got rearended...i got a paint job...and i was really getting sick and tired of the frost white...and i really love my silver now...low air's nothing man...and the recall u didn't have to pay for either right...tire rotations and services are reg maintenance u need on every car regardless...besides...if anything, u should be worried bout urself instead of ur car...i didn't go to a doctor after i got hit...and the thought that something bad might happen to my back because of not seeing a doctor and getting taken care of is prolly always gonna be in the back of my mind...be glad for what u have

Yeah, I guess you are right; the tire rotations and services are something I would need no matter what ride I was bouncin' in, and yeah, I didnt have to pay for the recall. But I did pay $22 for a new tail light; can you believe Honda?

But I swear, this underbody rear skirt thing is really bothering me...although I dont have the patience, nor the before-and-after pictures to prove that the rear looks different, to bring it back and argue with the body shop guy. I know it's different, although nobody else would, and sometimes that makes all the difference in how you feel driving it...like you hate it knowing it doesnt look like when it did picking the car up the first day at the dealer.

IMO pre 4th gen accords are not worht having for more then just get to work/school cars , but 4th gen and above, you should keep for a life time. Take care of the ole' girl and she willtake care of you.

Heh.. you're really getting your value there...

The most miles Ive ever seen on a honda was bout 7 months ago; I was at a dealership drooling over the new Accords when a 1991 civic hatch rolls in with 407,650 miles or so
