Got Her Back From The Body Shop...
My 99 San Marino Red EX V6 coupe was rear ended weeks back by some be-atch in a 99 (ironic) Pathfinder, and after getting her back from the body shop recently, I can swear the OEM rear under body spoiler doesnt look the same anymore----I dont know if anyone noticed on their OEM body kit for the sixth gen coupe (probably Mr Chad could relate), but the OEM kit under the rear bumper kind of hides the OEM exhaust tips to the point that you cant really see them if looking at the car from the sides; the OEM rear skirts hide the pipes pretty well. Now, since getting the car back from the shop, I can clearly see my OEM stainless exhaust tips when looking at the car from the side; its almost like they didnt use genuine Honda parts or something----but the job does look professional---the car looks perfect otherwise, but it seems like my OEM body kit kind of "changed"; can this be? The guy assured me he used 100 percent Honda parts where possible, and even showed me recipts where they bought the parts from a Honda dealer. Should I even make a big deal about this, or just drive the damn car the way it is, and just be glad its fixed? She has about 45,000 miles on her.
before/after pics would help...i just got rearended this summer too...and when i was asking around for quotes...my friend's dad's friend owns a body shop...and they do really good, reputable work, and they do all the work for a closeby Honda dealership...and he said that cars over 2 years old most of the time will get remanufactured body parts...and another guy i was talking with said that remanufactured doesn't really fit as well and the parts aren't perfectly OEM spec (in terms of dimensions, lil short here or there)...so that mite be what happened...but if u can show the guy pics of before/after and it really bugs u...u can prolly get a better job done

I think thats what may have happened here; they probably used remanufactured parts; but why would they do this? Why couldnt they just order me a rear OEM underbody piece for a 99?
I dont know if it really bugs me...it bugs me only because I KNOW originally you were not able to see the OEM tail pipes when looking at the car from the side; now you can. I dont know whether to look at this as a good or bad thing. It's like suddenly, the sideskirts in the rear were shortened somehow....the OEM ones were, well...kinda longer and hung lower....if that makes sense...what do you think I should do?
reman = cheaper...if oem was longer and lower...sounds like better effects and u wanna go to em bout it...if it's insurance thas dealing w/ payment...rip em for all they got...if it's the lady and u really don't like her...still rip her for all she's got

There isn't anyway to make the rear bumper fit lower or higher, if you have a rear kit it must be OEM.
If your exhaust is lower, it's because it now sits lower not the bumper.

Thanks for the reply....I hear you, but I gotta tell you....when I look at the side of the vehicle now, I can see the sides of the exhaust pipes, where before the accident and when I first got the car, the OEM rear under skirt would "hide" the exhaust tips much more....and please believe me I am NOT imagining this effect---I really do see a difference. You have the OEM kit, so I figured you would know what Im talking about...did you ever notice what I am talking about, about the sides of the exhaust pipes being hidden by the rear OEM skirt?
You say it "must be OEM"....but UCLA said that alot of these body shops utilize remanufactured parts----couldnt this part have been a refurbished bumper skirt that just doesnt fit to OEM specs anymore? Couldnt that be possible? It COULD be OEM, like you say, but it may be REFURBISHED OEM and it's not fitting right.
