Default Has anyone had problems with this bolt?

Its on the rear suspension...It connects the shock to the control arm. I can't get it off for the life of me....and 4 other people. Yes we used penetrating oil, yes we had an impact gun...Should i just break down and buy the 8 dollar bolt....

Its the same on both sides....any suggestions???

All I have to say is good luck getting them off. I used a piece of pipe as a breaker bar to get mine off and they both broke in half. I had to end up buying two new bolts from honda and had to saw the tack welded nuts off of my struts because they had pieces of the bolts stuck in them. Then I had to get new nuts and tack weld them on my struts. A good long breaker bar will either break them free or just break them but thats the only way.

I just loosened the bolt all I could and then sprayed some wd40 in the inside and all around the bolt and then just tried top wiggle it out the rest of the way. If that does not work you may have to cut the bolt and and just buy a new one....

Do you live where it snows in the winter? If so, there's a possibility that the bolt will snap because it's rusted to the metal sleeve in the LCA and/or the tackwelded nut on the shock fork.

My car lived its life in NJ until the year 2000. I was lucky though and was able to get those bolts off with a LOT of force. I was prepared to break a bolt but all I got was a lot of rust dust. I think one of my rear LCA bolts is fused though...but I always find a way to bypass it if I remember correctly.

[edit] But yup, lots of pb blast or wd40 or some kind of penetrating fluid and a pipe and/or breaker bar will yeild the moment of truth. Just be prepared for the worst. :happysad:

Try pb blast to loosen the rust, let it settle and then try removing it.

hit the head with a hammer to knock it loose. then use a breaker bar. if you strip it, you may have to drill it out and that sucks

i broke both of em off on my integra with a breaker bar.. we tried everything to get em loose and it wasnt going anywhere.. turned a 2 hour project into a 24 hour project.. and i dunno about you guys, but you can't get that stud anywhere but the honda dealer.. we even had a drill press and while drilling through one of the bolts we snapped a drill bit off inside the stud. talk about a pain in the ass.. good luck man.

No need to go to the stealership for those bolts. Just find a fastener supply house and get a 10.9 grade metric bolt. I work for a company called fastenal and those cost about 25 cents a piece, no $8. If you don't know the size then call the stealership and get those dimension.

Torch the nut until its red hot. This will expand it making it easier to get loose. You may break it.... but this was effective on my boys 2000 GSR. The welds on the nut broke tho, no biggie. We just had to hold the nut with some vice grips after that.
