Default b16a3 or b18b for my 94 civic coupe?

Hey,

I'm new here.
Alright, I'll be swapping the engine in my 94 civic soon, I live only a few miles from www.hmotorsonline.com which is where I'll most likely be getting my engine from. They have almost every type of b16 & b18.

I don't plan on turbo'ing but I do plan on doing alot of engine work, probably around $2000-3500 worth. The only problem is I can't make up my mind on which engine I want. Which engine would be a better buy? The faster the better

Thanks in advance to anyone who would like to help me with this.

b18b has more low end torque than b16. b16 has better top end than b18b. do a search for tons more info.

Thanks alot snoopy, I appreciate it.

got it, a b18b would have more power at lower rpms and the b16a3 would have more at higher rpms.

so going to work in traffic would be better with a b18b and racing a quarter mile would be better with a b16a3?

I've been trying to read as much information as I can find, I just like to get expert opinions once in a while

it's really up to you man. i personally like a B18B over a B16. plus, everyone has a B16. B18b's are really, i mean really facking fast if u fix them up correctly. build everything up and you can have a great N/A car, or even better, if you change your mind in the future, you can turbo that bish. man, the damn thing doesnt even have VTEC, hit up a VTEC head and build it properly; man you're money

Not quite. Stock for stock, a B18B Civic will run a 1/4 mile about the same as a B16A. The loss of torque makes a big difference.

I would never get a B16A over the B18B unless I got a really sweet deal on the '16. If I somehow did end up with a B16, I would swap in B17 guts or an entire B17A or B18C shortblock before I did any building.

b16a has more potential, and it more fun to drive cause of the closer gearing and the higher redline.

get the b16a3, if you can swing it, you'll be happy with the b18c1

Thank you very much for the help guys

Alright, so no more b16

quick question; b18b or b18c1? I can afford both, but with the b18c1 I will probably only have about $1000 for mods unlike the b18b where I would have probably close to $3000. About how much would it be to put a b16 head on a b18b?

I appreciate the help

The B18 has a lower R/S ratio of about 1.54 where the B16a3 has a good R/S ratio of an impressive 1.74. Since you're not turbo'ing the engine, the low R/S ratio would not be much of a problem. I would only say go with B16a3 if you were turbo'ing it.

are you crazy...hrmm which would i rather have a b16 turbo or a LS turbo....gee LS TURBO! it's .2 larger displacement, non vtec/lower CR, beefier rods and just an all around better turbo motor than a B16 (boost>>>>>vtec anyways)

There are plenty of guys hitting 280 whp on stock internaled turbo b18B's

dang if you have about 5000 dollars to spend buy yourself a project car and use the civic for a daily driver. You can spend 3000 on a GSR swap, 2000 on boltons and run a low 14, doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

Get a 240sx or SE-R and for 5000 (including the price of the car) you could easily be in the 12's, just a suggestion though.
