The B18 has a lower R/S ratio of about 1.54 where the B16a3 has a good R/S ratio of an impressive 1.74. Since you're not turbo'ing the engine, the low R/S ratio would not be much of a problem. I would only say go with B16a3 if you were turbo'ing it.

LS TURBO! it's .2 larger displacement, non vtec/lower CR, beefier rods and just an all around better turbo motor than a B16 (boost>>>>>vtec anyways)
There are plenty of guys hitting 280 whp on stock internaled turbo b18B's
