Default Timing BElt

How would u find out if the timing belt has been replaced? My car as 130,000 miles on it right now.

I tried checking the history of previous owner with the dealer, but when i called the Number was out of service.

Do you think i can find the info about the previous owners trough a carfax? Does anyone have an account on carfax that can help me check ? Thanx a lot

Carfax won't tell you anything like that. Your best bet is to pull it off or look at the belt and then make your decision from there. The longest I would wait would be till 140,000, if you don't change it soon.

he (i did too actually) thought you meant that the changing of the timing belt would be on the carfax.

The only noise I can think of listening for would be a bad waterpump or tensioner.

Your best bet would be to inspect the belt visually but at the very least removing the upper cover.

Carfax won't tell you who the previous owner was or what kind of work they did to it. All it will tell you is how many previous owners the car had and where they smogged and registered it.

Well, I figure you should replace timing belts at every 80K... if you can do it yourself or have friends that are mechanically inclined, it wouldn't hurt to change it. The only way to know if you need to change it or not is to just visually inspect it, but even if you do, you might not be able to see the underside of the belt.

How often should the water pump be changed? But if i have gone thus far (130k) do you think that the previous owner had already changed it or am I just playing with plain luck right here?

The water pump should be changed with every timing belt change (or so I have been told by just about everybody). Apparently the tension of a new belt on the bearings of an old pump will wear out the pump in a short amount of time thereafter. Since you already have most the work out of the way when you get the timing belt off, replacing the water pump isn't really a big deal. Also, if you have no history of the car, I wouldn't chance not changing out the belt, just for safe keeping. In the end though, its your call. Hope I helped.
