I was thinking about boring out the block too - but not sure if it would require a lot more work...

so you say a "thin" gasket would boost the HP?
what kinda difference do you think it would make?

Actually I'm not really sure. My guess would be 2-3 but I could be way off.

Boring out the block would require a lot of work and you probably will need to get sleeves to reinforce it. I wouldn't do it on that engine. At the very least get a D16z6. It's a SOHC VTEC, it's super cheap depending on where you live and it's pretty decent. Everyone here will tell you to swap motors and not wasted time on that one. If you really want power, get a B series motor. Preferably the B18C1 from the 94-00 Integra GSR.

yep, d15b7. you could always do a mini-me swap, by sticking a d16z6 head on the d15, get an ecu from a car that had the engine originally (92-95 ex/si) and have vtec. you wouldn't want to bore it out on your own, especially since you don't know much about engines. if you go too much, you'd be screwed and have to get a new block.

ahh right - I could change out the block with another - or waste my time on the one I have...wouldnt that also require to change out the piston heads as well? It seems like a lot of work since I am going to do it myself - it will probably take me a few hours to change out the gasket...?

honestly, if i were you, i'd just replace the gasket, get it running, and get a d16z6 (if you only have the kind of money). they're pretty cheap. if you have the means, go with a b series. but you're just not going to get a whole lot of performance out of a d15b7.

If you were just doing bolt-ons, I'd say keep the stock engine. Since it seams like you want to do extensive engine work, I say ditch the stock engine. It's going to cost too much money and halfway into it, you'll be like, "Why am I wasting my time and money on the engine?" I've had that engine and it sucks (no offense).

Tell us what you want to do with your car. Add a little zip or all out speed?

I agree. Don't waste time and money boring out the stock engine. It's not worth it. It'll probably cost the same as getting a D16Z6. Also the D16 tranny has tighter gears than your stock one.

To be completely honest, I would like to add a little of both zip and speed. I have had this car for a few years now and it has been sitting with the blown gasket for almost 6 months. It has overheated a few times and I hope it is just that and not a warped/cracked head... I have some cash to put into it - but I dont want to waste it on doing something stupid that i dont need to do...

I'm say building up the stock engine is something stupid that you don't need to do. A D16z6 is cheap, you start off with 20 or so more HP, better tranny, and more tuneability (is that a word). Plus you start off with an engine that's free of problems (hopefully).
