d16y7 = 200 hp?!?
18secferio, what shop was that? SA shops don't know shit. But it is possible to get that kind of HP out of that engine but not without some cash. And a D16Z6 can handle 200HP reliably easy. Oh, and if that guy in the other reply is running 12psi on a D15B then that goes to show you since that block is identical to the VX block. I know of a hatchback with a turbocharged DX motor running 12's. It has a lot of cash into the block and head though. A shop in SA doing that kind of work though? None that I know of could do it. My cousin went to every shop in SA to see if they could install his cybernations Turbo Kit on his RSX and all of them declined to do it. He wanted someone else to do it to save time since it's his daily driver. We did it in two weeks working after work. It was relatively easy. I hate the shops here that is why I do everything myself except block work. But i know a guy that is a genious at building honda blocks but he does'nt own a shop so it takes him time to do the work.

my take on the whole thing..... i have a y8 which is an equally crappy motor just has vtec... and i have had a 60 shot on it for almost 2 years now with NO problem... so im pretty sure you could get 200 hp out of a y7 utilizing nitrous.. my friend jared (some of you may remember him his name was builthatch) had a built y7 with nitrous and was running a pretty big shot... my assumption is you have about a 100 hp stock at the motor.... between building it bolt ons and a large wet shot you could probably eaily see 200 hp at the motor.. and i always figure on about %15 loss to the wheelsso youd need like 230ish at the motor.. would it be easy OR cost effective.. no probably not.. but i think you COULD do it.. and once built it would IMHO not be that much more unreliable than any other built honda motor
Reliability is not a problem at all making 200 whp with a sohc - even a Y7, but I don't see it even nearly economical to pull that kind of power out of a Y7 head... it's just not a good head for performance - period! And sure you have to put in some good pistons, rods and other internals to make it reliable, but it can be done! And BTW - ALL sohc connecting rods are WHIMPY! It's a surprise that you can put 8 psi on a Z6 or Y8 and have the rods hold up, but I guess it also has a lot to do with that good old quality material that Honda uses in those rods. My last hatch had a built Z6 in it running on 14 psi(rpm sleeves, 8.5cr srps, pauter rods, etc.), but it cost me 3500 to build minus the FI. I think this time around I would build a B series up instead, b/c you can get more parts for them and the blocks can handle more power from the start. The bottom line is that you probably will spend close to the same money building the crap out of a D-series or B series, the big advantage is the amount of power you can pull out of a STOCK B series vs. a STOCK D series to begin with (better head design, stronger internals, etc.) In the end I'm still a big fan of SOHCs - they're cheaper, lighter and more plentiful - you don't need to have a B-series under your hood to go fast!
