right near your oil filter, there is a clip that plugs into the back of the block. Make sure that is hooked up. If not, your fan will never come on. But jsut start your car and let it idle for a while in the driveway. ONce it gets up to temp, if the fan doesn't kick on, you'll know what's up.

you all are telling me to change the temp sensor.
doesn't that also work the temperature gauge in your cluster? cuz that still works. if I drive it all day, it'll never overheat. It will ONLY over heat when the car isn't in motion. so that led me to conclude that the radiator isn't clogged cuz once air starts to cool the antifreeze, the temp immediately drops. if there are two sensors... the thermoswitch is on the thermostat housing (thermostat was replaced <2 years ago) where is the sensor that tells mr. ecu how hot the car is and in turn controls the temperature gauge?
thanks guys. stupid car.. gotta keep on drivin!

You are correct, there is one "sender" and one "sensor". The "sender" is what makes the needle on the gage move. I believe that is located on the block some where. The "sensor" is located in the thermostat housing. It's the one that talks to the ECM. Make sure the plug is clipped on to the sensor.(that's an easy first check) Sometimes when they change the thermostat, they forget to plug the sensor back in, you have to unplug it to change the thermostat. If that doesn't work, you may want to try replacing the sensor.
BUT!!!
Have you tried checking just the fan? All you have to do is disconnect the fan and hook up a 12v source to it(ie battery in the car) If the fan spins when you hook up power, the fan is good, if not, the motor maybe burned out. That's an easy and free check as well.

when I changed the thermostat, I didn't have to unhook it. but that was years ago and this happened 2 months ago... but i will do as you suggest.
are those the ONLY causes of a no-turn-on?

If you're overheating at idle, then your fan is not turning on or your radiator is fuked. When the car is moving, air goes through the radiator and cools the coolant; therefore, no overheating.

ANYBODY have a site they goto for replacement parts? like the thermoswitch?
