New
im just about to buy a 92 hatchback, im not sure about any problems with these cars tho. it has about 200 thousand miles on it, mint all around tho. drives like its brand new. how bad are these cars? thanxx

PS... welcome to HAN! :wavey:
If something does blow up, the whole drivetrain can be replaced for around $500. Good luck

BTW, what model is it? (Si, dx, cx, vx?)
i beleive its a dx, ik that theres no power steering, has the 1.5 and is pretty much mint from what i saw. no smoke, no shifting probs or notin
o btw i had preveiously owned a 89 legend coupe, it had alot of pick up im just wondering if with just a few mods i can get this civic to be the same if not faster?

There are plenty of ways to make this car (way) faster than a legend, but since it is a dx, they pretty much all involve swapping the motor to something else. I would leave well enough alone if it's just a commuter. (says the guy who's had 3 different engines in his hatchback

ha whats wrong with the dx motor? cuz i was talking to someone and they said that the 1.5 is mad easy to build up, said a saab turbo fits on em and all taht but im not even positive if its a dx so ya
But, to elaborate:
There is no such thing as "throwing on a turbo" you'll need a manifold, plumbing, engine mangeagment, if you're smart an intercooler, etc etc etc. You're looking at at least $1000 if you're good at shopping. The d16z6 found on the EX and Si models will make a good deal more power given the same bolt-ons. My opinion on the matter: use the motor for what it was designed for. A d15b7 was never meant to be anything other than a reliable grocery getter. Yes, it can be turboed, but in the end you'll have a car that is still slower than most of what's out there, and you'll take your reliable 35mpg and turn it into an unreliable 25mpg (depending on how you use your right foot
