Default 92 auto hatch and a 93 manual del sol d16z6

Hello H-A.net!

So I have a 92 automatic hatch civic and a 93 manual del sol d16z6.

The Hatch is a daily driver, the body is not doing so well but I have started buying used good body parts for it, and I have it looking alot better, so It is time to start to think about the project I have been meaning to get to. It currently has a d15 auto in it...

I aquired a non-driving 1993 Honda Del Sol, that I can get to turn over, and it gluggs but with out continually pumping the gas wont stay running. It has the d16z6 vtec motor.

I want to meld the two cars, I heard it was possible to swap over the rear disk brakes from the del sol to the hatch, as well as the engine.

I was just wondering my possibiliites with these two vehicles?

Should I do the swap or should I just fix the del sol and swap a Craigslist bought either Y8 or another z6 into the hatch, what amount of work are we talking here in the realm of custom fab am I looking at or is it practically a bolt up installation..?

Any websites or links and or advice that can throw out to help me with these projects?

thanks for your time guys....

Im pretty sure everything that you want to do is as simple as bolting everything up. Just make sure you have some extra bolts lying around in case you break any of the suspension bolts swapping control arms etc. PB blaster works great for this.

The cars are pretty much identical. Any mechanical bit should be more or less interchangeable. The del slo brakes will swap over, as will the engine/trans. If your sol is manual, you'll also have all the parts you need to do the auto/manual conversion.

So, if you're married to the hatchback, you should have everything you need. Or you could just fix the del slo, junk the hatch, and call it a day.

Why Isnt my user CP letting me know replies were getting put here??

Well I got the del sol towed back to my garage now, and it is really growing on me.

I got most of the body panels I needed to get the Hatch up to par, even though now it looks like a Myriad of colors, it at least doesnt have major indents all over it... haha

But seeing as how the hatch already has a good working motor, I think I am gonna go the route of fixing the sol...

The Sol apparently has had some bondo done that cracked, so I went to work on it to find some major problems underneath.

The affected areas are the entire drivers door (easy to replace) (LOOKING FOR ANYONE SELLING ONE!!!)

and most of the entire drivers side quarter panel.

Now Im in dismay as I have no idea what to do to fix this, I take it the rear quarter panels dont just pop off like the fenders do...

Thinking this means welding huh???

Any advice?

Yeah, rear quarters will need to be replaced if they can't be fixed. They sell replacement panels on ebay for pretty cheap, but I don't know how well they match up. You should be able to order quarters at an auto/body supply shop, but you'll have to cut out the part you're getting rid of, weld up the new quarter, and most importantly, measure and match the two patches pretty damn close, otherwise you'll just end up with another panel full of holes and bondo. :hs:

I was looking at the rust replacement quarter panels, and I dont think they cover the entire area that needs to be replaced.....

I am begginning to think that bondo or cutting it out and custom welded pieces are the only way to go...

bondo and cutting is not a big thing but depends on how much rust and how anal you are about perfection in a car

Picked up another entire del sol today for $500 with a good quarter panel.

Thing runs too haha

Orig del sol has a bad oil pan, it has a hole in it... oil everywhere.
plus I accidentally stripped the fuel pressure relief bolt that goes into the banjo bolt.

And a new drivers door!
And a spolier, not sure if I like it though....

Plus another d16z6 to build in my spare time to go into the hatch.

sweeeet...
