Aside from the better build quality, they also have camber adjustments.

how many miles have you guys been putting on your setups. i had agx's that blew out after 3 years. and it's my dd i don't want to be replacing struts every three years has a mild drop, but on 450/350 rates which should help the life of the struts. it's dd but i never beat on it hard.

looking for some long life alternatives

I've only had my AGX's for about 1 year... I'm a little surprised to hear that, they're known for their quality... I think some companies even outsource their struts to KYB, so I'm confident they did a good job designing them. In any case, I'll probably have a new suspension setup before 3 years are up.

350/450 rates are pushing the limits of and probably led to the premature failure of the AGXs. Koni Yellows have a lifetime warranty and can handle those spring rates much better than the AGXs can.

i'm confused. wouldn't 450/350 rates HELP the lifespan of the struts? the springs are holding more of the car's weight, compressing less, and therefore compressing the strut less.
yes/no?

either way, they are too stiff for me personally DD so the next setup, whatever it may be, will be something a touch softer.

No. All shocks are rated for a certain spring rate range. The harder the EDIT "spring" the quicker it's going to rebound the shock making the oil/gases in the shock heat up quicker, which in the long run blow the seals.

Most off the shelf shocks like AGX, KYB, and Tokicos are rated for around 300 ft/lbs springs. Go over than and expect your shocks not to last as long. Koni Yellows are about 450. Koni SPSS3s are about 600lbs.

Think of it like a pressure cooker. The higher the temperature you cook the pressure cooker under the more pressure that builds up inside. Eventually something has to give.

when you say "the harder the shock the quicker it's going to rebound" you mean "the stiffer the spring the quicker it's going to rebound" ? it makes sense if you meant stiffer spring rate. doesn't make sense if you mean harder shock.

I'll go dig up some more reading. you learn something new everyday

thanks,

Sorry I meant the harder the SPRING the quicker it's going to rebound. So every time you go over a bump the spring is going to push back on the shock much harder than a softer spring. Which in turn is going to put more stress on the internals of the shock if it's not setup properly.

 thanks for the explianation. makes sense now. I might reconsider agx's again as a cheap replacement with some softer springs. but i'll have to find allowed spring rates. couldn't find the threshhold rating on their website.
