The BEAST Build. My Quest for 10's
You need less friction in your synchros if you want to shift that high. If your 2/3 shift is still a bit rough at those rpms, it's definitely the gear oil. If you're still running Honda MTF in your tranny, cut it out. You're shifting above 8500 rpms now. Remember that thinner oil = less friction and heat. Heat and gearsets = bad at high rpms. Too much friction or too little, and the synchros work against you. I'd still run the recommended weight of gear oil, but I'd run full-synthetic for the sake of the higher shifts.
I'd use something like BG Synchroshft or GM SynchroMesh. Plain-old Synchroshift is a synthetic blend. Synchroshift II is full-synthetic. You can probably find a BG dealer in your area, but Mach V and RoadRaceEngineering sell their stuff on-line if you can't find anyone.

I'm already using GM synchromesh.
is your shift linkage still really sloppy? if it is, i think you should put the bitch pin back in it. also, i took mine off today and to see why i still had slop and noticed that the race around the shifter was destroyed. i also put spacers on both sides of the shifter before running the bolt thru it and the linkage. once i got it all back together, there was zero slope.
just a thought, cause i remember last time i got in it and wiggled the shifter it had a lot of play while in gear.

It really cleaned things up in there but i think i might check out the other end of the linkage as well, just because.
I went through a bunch of stuff last night & drained my mobile1 10-30 synthetic and put in a conventional 10-40, it drasticly reduced my smoking issues. You can see barly see the smoke at this point. The recommended 5w50 was nowhere to be found.
I'm probalby gonna try & tackle the cam swap tonight in between finishing up jason's engine, it's on the stand & i've go to finish assembly.
removed the NA cams & put some GSR cams in.. it made a drastic difference in power! I'm amazed. Noticed i was goin a little lean in boost so i only got in it a few times, but it doesn't have any traction on the street tires up top. Not even with the LSD & Traction bars.
I'll make the tuning adjustments some time this weekend.
The next thing ineed to work out is my shifting issues at very high rev. I'm thinkin i'm gonna drain the fluid & stick some conventional 10-30 in there to see what it does. If it works then i'll probably stick with it & just find some better quality oil to run in the trans.

ehh changed alternator out.. coz i had a feeling that the bearings in it were heating up & locking the pully up durring high heat situations.. put a 4th belt on & went out to play for the night..
killed a newer stang with some stripey thing & the numbers 350 going down the side of it & also a boosted swapped 240. All in all, it was a good night & the belt didn't shread.
On the other hand i'm seeing oil on the front of my block, i think it's from my valve cover or cam seal from the cam swap. I'm gonna have to check that out.. tomarrow, need to have everything resolved before the 400 mile trip down to richmond next week.
