Cross referanced the part numbers and they came back the same so i didn't have to buy parts yet!

Actually our transmissions are more alike than you'd think. Hardened steel helical cut gears and soft aluminum cases. When you apply 400lbs of torque to a helical cut gear, a lot of lateral forces are applied. Far beyond their design anyway. I don't doubt that it could happen, but if the endplay were bad enough to do that, the case should be leaking inside the bell housing. I didn't see that when you had it apart.

The fact that 1, 2, and 5 looked far less damaged than 3 & 4, and the lower mains being squashed in the center seem to indicate [to me] that the bearings were just too soft for 20 PSI. I would have expected to see distortion all over the bearing, and for the outer bearings near the rear main seal to be the worst if it were being affected by the transmission somehow. We should have numbered them all when we pulled them.

I know the set you have coming would have taken the abuse, and they're going to kick ass with the new crank and tranny. I like the way you just have a spare LSD lyin around. That's pretty convenient.

unfortunatly the final drive gear wouldn't fit over my backup LSD. I'll have to check part numbers later but something ain't right. So i swaped a bad diff bearing, installed a used input shaft bearing, and everything else looks to be decent. I closed the case last night, hopfully i can do the swap this evening. I really don't mind running non-LSD for super summit, we are just gonna cruise out & show anyways, while we check out some really cool cars & get some good deals on parts.

On a side note, for those of you that remember it. The purple teg that has been in my driveway for ever had it's motor installed wed. night & is running as of last night. We'll see how that thing holds up soon!

T...

I was talkin' to Jamie earlier. I think he's on to something. While you were here, he downloaded the PDF from Dart and said that a couple of things stand out to him. When Jamie is left to stew on things, it's usually amazing what he can cook up. Doood's got a motor head, what can I say? Call me sometime and I'll give you his number. Make sure you talk to him before going back to the machine shop with anything for it.

Alos, he just picked up a new chassis today. 6BOLTED is coming back around again with 2 extra doors. It's a '91 or '92 Excel fo-do with only 58k on it. It's 1-owner. Pics coming soon to another thread.

I GOT MY BOLTS!!!

well being that i swapped trannies & still have this shifting issue i'm looking at drive train parts that are being used.

Shift linkage - ruled out due to low rev shifting being fine
axles - ruled out due to not related to shifting

Talked to both ACT and LSD Motorsports today about arm travel on worn clutch systems.

I've been convinced that i may been a new clutch disk as the pads were worn upon inspection durring the tear down at jafro's. I ordered one from CA and it will arrive wed. this week. I'll compaire the two & give that a shot while i re-install my old LSD trans.

My turbo should also be arriving on wed. so if my bearings show up, i'll just pull everything & have a big fun adventure, replacing everything!
