What's your average MPG?
and to disagree with scott t, who is obviously very well versed in the general car technicals, but not so much in the world of Honda...
Honda's are notoriously hard to start when low of fuel, they perform worse, and their fuel pumps are prone to failure.

Maybe the previous owner of crucial si's car stashed a pound of heroin in the gas tank.

(at least, not in the Honda
h: )I DO know that I can usually add more than a half gallon of gas after the first click of the auto shutoff - - Honda'a are notorious for early shutoff, my mom has one too and I used to fill it up for her - and the amount of gas I can put in the tank can vary a lot depending on the slope of the gas station lot. I always try to park on a slope away from the pump to fit more gas in the tank - that can add another half gallon.

And I have driven my civic a few times well below 2-3 gallons left (probably about 1 gallon a couple times), and never had the slightest problems. It has 103K on it and has always run perfectly.
Anyway, don't assume just because I am new here I am new to Hondas - they heve run (well) in my family for 15 years. I was a member at Purehonda for a while. before it went to sh!t.
One thing to try if you have troube starting and know you have gas left - I had trouble starting an old Sentra once a long time ago, I had been idling for several minutes before shutting it off and when I went to start it, it wouldn't fire. On a whim, I jumped on the rear bumper - and it started right up. My best guess was that the gas intake float had stuck and I knocked it loose by jumping on the bumper.
