Honda's are notoriously hard to start when low of fuel, they perform worse, and their fuel pumps are prone to failure.
I have had a Honda for almost 4 years and 75K miles - I was just never stupid enough to let it run out of gas, or even drive on fumes for days at a time

(at least, not in the Honda

I DO know that I can usually add more than a half gallon of gas after the first click of the auto shutoff - - Honda'a are notorious for early shutoff, my mom has one too and I used to fill it up for her - and the amount of gas I can put in the tank can vary a lot depending on the slope of the gas station lot. I always try to park on a slope away from the pump to fit more gas in the tank - that can add another half gallon.
