Default Oil Cooler...

Someone recently brought it to my attention that my engine feels really really really hot when I just finished running my car hard or after a long time driving....(not overheating) but a machanic suggested installing and oil cooler in my ride...he said it's a good idea since I live in AZ and it will help protect my car...

So how do I go about installing one......I know you relocate your oil filter and stuff.......can anyone give me more info on this...I know that it keeps your oil pressure up or something.....

Shed some light into this noob!!

Thanks guys...

peep out summitracing.com, they have a oil cooler kit and its universal. bascially, u relocate ur filter and run like a smal intercooler sort to speak in front of the car, and run the lines bakk to the oil filter. unless ur runnin like turbo, for ur reason its kewl but wouldnt hurt to get one.

Add some Redline Water Wetter to your coolant mixture. That will bring the temps down. Another thing is make sure your fins on your radiator are not bent and clogged up with bugs and debris.

I run my car hard autocrossing and track days and the temperature needles stays the same no matter what. What oil are you using?

Thanks guys...no my car is not overheating the temp needle stays where its supposed to be....but like heat off the engine when you open the hood....it just seems really really hot....the guy that told me about the oil cooler said that since I use Castrol synthetic blend 5w-30 that my oil gets really hot almost water like I guess......he said the oil cooler would keep the oil thicker and the vescosity higher so it protects.......so I thought I'd do it if it was cheap....

Is it worth it?? I know I won't see any gains but what is your guys opinions on this??

Personally, I'd recommend finding a new mechanic, immediately. Your car is supposed to warm up. In fact, it performs better within a certain temperature range, which is why I recommend against the low-temp thermostats for daily driven cars.

Your car should be operating withing 190 and 220 degrees. Thermostat doesn't even open until 190.

Stock with an oil cooler? Hmm... that's weird. An oil cooler would help plain and simple but I think your car is running fine. I just purchased and oil cooler kit so I will let you know how the install goes. Off topic, but I put a tranny cooler on my GXE and it made a big difference when I drive it hard for long distances. My fluid looks and smells much better now then it did before. But I also switched to synthetic Mobil 1 ATF fluid too, so who knows which one made the improvement. If your gonna blow money that would be better money spent than say an intake or something. IMO.
