Default short shifter question

I just got a short shifter from ebay and I noticed that it was different from my current one. The distance from the pivot point to the weighted ball is larger than the stock one (picture).

Well I decided to try it anyway, everything went good, the shifting is super tight now but I noticed on my way to work this morning when I get up to about 80, the shifter rod (rod comming from transmission) is hitting on the exhaust.

I guess my question is, where has anyone gotten one that has been the right size, or should I get an adjustable one, or should I just 'trim' mine down(j/k).

Thats where you get the "short" shifter. It has to be longer so it is shorter.

Ok, that makes sense. Ideas on getting it to not hit the exhaust?

I had the same problem when I took my shift linkage off when I changed my tranny (bitch pin wouldn't come out).

I just got a big bar and pried it, worked fine for me and nothing broke.

Buy a quality shifter and not an Ebay, blue light special. h:

Are you seriously thinking about bending the linkage? Sounds like a pretty senseless idea to me. :eh:

Is it hitting the exhaust piping or a heat shield? Just remove the shield if that's the problem. If it's the piping, either replace the shifter or have that section of exhaust changed to have a bend in it or routed around the shifter. I'll be that changing the shifter to something of higher quality would likely be the simplist solution.

You think APC is 'quality'? :uhhok:

Dude, look into something like B&M (not really recommended cause they rattle) or, preferrably, Skunk2 dual bend. APC is shittay!

first off i got my short throw shifter off ebay and had it for about 6 months and no problems but it depends on what seller you get it from you buy the cheapest you get the cheapest...i paid like $35 for a titanium finish short throw shifter and knob

as far as the tightness you just over tightened the bolt that goes thru the bottom of the shifter you can adjust it for tighter/looser shifts

as far as the shifting rod im assuming you mean the main shifting linkage rod....if it didnt hit before(which it shouldnt have) the shifter install then it shouldnt hit now...cuz as already clearified really the only thing changed about the shifter is the location of the pivot ball.....rasing it makes a shorter throw...thus you must have not bolted somethin up right
