Default Transmission Noise

I have a D16z6 manual transmission. I was driving on the highway yestreday and I guess I didn't downshift very smoothly and now I have this bad noise coming from the transmission. It sounds like a half GRINDING, half metal-RUBBING noise. Sounds like some bearing or something is loose and rolling around or something. I hear it mostly when I am in Low or second gear and mostly as the RPM's are dropping or when I keep it at like 2000 rpms. Sometimes I even hear it when I'm idling in neutral. Please help. Thanks guys.

Yeah I guess I should. Thanks. Anyways it's more like a rattling noise like a tin can is just bouncing around in there. It's definitely not the exhaust. Thanks

Any more ideas??

I've had the same noise for MANY miles. I thought it was the throw out bearing, nope. The I thought it could be the pilot bearing, nope. Short of tearing it down and completely breaking it, I live with it. The last time I had the tranny out (for the pilot and rear main), it sounded good for a few days with fresh oil in it, now it does it occassionly. Usually when cold and sometimes when turning left. Not usually when warmed up and going straight or right. Since I have another tranny I figured I'd wait for it to finally blow, but it has been a year or two, which means somewhere around 60,000 miles.

Both times I drained the tranny oil, there was no eveidence of color change or metal flakes that I could see.

I'm no expert when it comes to transmissions, but I had this problem about two years ago. I took it to the shop and they told me that it was the case bearing. They fixed it and my tranny has been noise free since. There were other problems too, but they weren't causing the noise.

does anybody know where i can take my tranny to get it serviced? it's f-d up. can't go into reverse, 3 gear doesn't go in n grinds. basicaly no tranny in the car. any shops specialize on b16a2(LSD)tranny's and that will not rip me off. i live in Burbank, CA.
Thanks

I know my d serise trans used to sing when it was cold.. it sounded like a race trans untill it warmed up. I put some synthetic motor oil real thin in my gsr trans.. i dont remember exsacly but all the swap forums reccomended it but it works awsome in the cold and the heat.
