QUESTION: Are civics racing material?
Well on top of my soon to be in progress DX/EX turbo project, I have my Daily driver, which is a 1993 Civic Si Hatch. I just replaced the brake pads/rotors/rear calipers, suspension bushings (still has double wishbone, i dunno if thats good?), and the clutch was replaced just a few years back. It has a ecu 'chip' that was placed in it to keep the exhaust valve open a second longer to allow all the exhaust to flow out, being it has a custom striaght-flow resonator exhaust setup and was tuned (and used to belong to) the daughter/neice (cant rememeber at the moment) of Newman-Haas racing (and indy car co. paul newman owns, whom aslo starred in that cars movie, look it up!). I was going to keep this as a DD and eventually sell it because of the minor bodywork i didnt want to get into, but this inspires me to use it for a bit longer. It has 300,000 miles but i could overhaul it with newer parts and etc.
I have a 94 dx, runs in sm class, usually the fastest 4 cylinder car there, decent suspension setup but on falken zeix. Suspension consist of type r sway bar(huge upgrade, low cost) ebay coilover sleeves, kyb agx struts. nearly a 200 hp motor in it all motor so no turbo lagg and so forth. Sounds pretty good right now right....well thats wrong for autocross. I have a friend that has been auto-xing for a little longer than I that has a 90 model civic, beat me by little more than a second on a very open course. He has about the same suspension setup except for koni yellow struts and a lighter car. stock 100hp motor but he ran slicks... My top speed through the course was about 78mph, his was about 60...see what is more important yet??
