Shot peened is where they blast it with small pellets at a controlled speed to strengthen the grain of the metal. I am not sure about the cost, but it is significantly less than forged rods.

Stock D series rods are like toothpicks, though, so I wouldn't even waste the time when forged rods are not that expensive.

I'm probably going to get the rods when I buy another motor soon. I won't even be close to maxing those rods if they really are capable of 500whp.

every engine builder is different and has his/her own beliefs and theories on the build and what parts to use and not to use...point is there will be failure at some point on any given build even if u did 20 exactly one way and 20 another way...and then u can point fingers anyway you would like but it still failed and for what reason(s)? tuning is the most important thing on any build but yet there are many variables that can lead to failure on a motor...but great discussion and this could go on forever
