93 Civic JDM D15B Vtec
I just bought a 93 Civic DX with a blown motor. I have been shopping around and I have found that the JDM D15B vtec engine (same as D16Z6) is in my price range. I belive that my car now has a US D15B non-vtec engine. I have a friend that has done several engine swaps but never one of these. Do you think he would be capable of doing a swap loke this? I was wondering if anything needs to be modified for this swap, or will it drop right in? Also what do I do about the vtec wiring? I know any 92-95 civic ex or si ECU will work, but could someone please post a pic of how to run the wires to the ecu? Should I have a profesional wire it? And if I don't wire the vtec right away, will the car still be drivable? And also will any 92-95 civic ex, or si clutch work with the d15b vtec engine? I am really in a hurry to get this done, so I will really appreciate it if some one could answer my questions. Thanks a lot!!!!!!!
If your friend has done swaps before he shouldnt have a problem doing this one. If you get an EX or Si harness off a 92-95 civic you wont have to run vtec wires, much easier that way IMO. As for the motor it will drop right in, and you can re-use your axles, and shiftlinkage too. And yes a clutch from a EX or Si will work just fine. All deries parts are Interchangable. Good Luck with the swap.

Well that depends, being a mechanic you're pretty much knowledgable in any type of mechanical works. Labor wise, troubleshooting, etc..etc... But w/out the right information (diagrams on how to hook up vtec) a mechanic will be fixing the car blindly. My dad is a mechanic (forklift mechanic I should say). The guy is very well respected @ his company and has been there for over 20 years...works on forklifts full time and cars part time. When it comes to troubleshooting, and electrical..he pretty much knows it all from the top of his head. But one day I asked him about running wiring up for vtec and what not..he's like huh???? WTH is vtec..
All Im saying is if the mechanic gets the right information he's able to do anything from swaps to electrical.

He may still have to run the wires from the engine harness to the ecu, not all civic are wired for vtec. it's very simple only 3 wires any competent person can do it.....

you dont need a complete engine harness. just run a VTEC wire to the ECU.
make sure the D15B is not a 3 step VTEC.
