I agree that you would never want to run the car without that retaining screw in place for your rotor. Amazing amounts of damage could result.

I'd like to know how your retaining screw was labeled "unuseable". What feat did you complete for this to happen?
Yes.. rock it.. with the car in gear the wheel movement will cause the crank to turn, causing the cam to turn, causing the rotor to turn.. get it now? That's how I've always done it... It's simpler that way.

As for the screw, he could have stripped the crap out of the head and is afraid he won't be able to get it back out later on. But, it absolutely should be replaced and not run without it.

I was simply disagreeing that "rocking it" was an easier process. My car outweighs yours by a bit, though.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if he had stripped the screw head?! Ahhh, the laughing you hear isn't, in fact, from the screw head. No no, the laughing is from me.
