Yeah, I was kind of dissappointed that the DX, LX, and EX are getting a 1.8L SOHC. I was under the impression (and hoped) that they were all going to get the 160 hp 2.0L which is in the current Civic Si hatchback .

Oh well, at least this time they've tuned the coupe's suspension differently from the sedan to add distinction. I still can't figure out how the 2006 Civic weighs more than base Accords did just a few years ago . Wouldn't that cancel out some of the extra 13 hp?

Every generation, Honda increased displacement by one-tenth of a litre to make up for weight gains. They aren't adding power to make it fast, they add it to keep the car from being rediculously slow.

There are SEVERAL variations of both the K24 and the K20 series of motors. No K24 is rated at 220hp, none. The closest K24 that comes to your claimed 220hp is the TSX
"For 2006, modifications to the TSX 2.4 liter DOHC i-VTEC(TM) engine boost horsepower to 205 hp SAE net (Rev 8/04)*, a five horsepower increase compared to last year, and torque to 164 lb-ft SAE net (Rev 8/04) at 4500 rpm "

Due to increasing demands on safety requirements on both the consumer and the legal spectrum, the offset is added weight in components. Nevermind the fact that the level of comfort and ammentities rises with each generation which can partially account for the increasing weight. I bet you can't name one vehicle that hasn't gained any weight with a generation change reguardless of make or model.

No it's a K20 which is similar to the 2005-2006 RSX-S, but the same? No.

Specs are here. (auto.consumerguide.com).
Again not the same motor, Similar yes, but it does recieve it's own designation. I believe the next Si is a K20Z6, and the current RSX-S is a K20Z2

A misconception, it is not the SAME motor. It is a similar motor.

Not entirely true either the Si in the 5th generation Civic was a 1.6L, the Si in the 6th generation was a 1.6L, and the 7th generation was a 2.0L. For the most part the lower trimmed Civics followed this trend, however the statement doesn't hold true to all Civics.

Need I dispel any further rumors?

Of course it's not 100%, but it's funtionally the same. Honda loves to change the smallest of things and claim a "new" engine.

The Si has always been the exception. Si sales are also extremely low compaired to the other models, so that doesn't matter.

The .1L per update is an obvious generalization, I don't see the need to list every per-model engine as most generations had at least two availible displacements.

Coupe weighs : 2593LBS

My 95 EX coupe weights 2350lbs. Not that much of a difference in weight, but much more power in the SI. Should be fun, but not a screamer.

Another plus is all the new engines will all have timing chains. This will make maintenance a breeze for 200K miles, unless there are unforseen reliability problems (but come on they're hondas).

The new Civics get more power, better fuel economy, with slightly more weight. They are better than the older ones if you are looking for a good daily driver that you don't plan on trying to squeez power out of.

the dx weighs that much, the lx is 2654, the ex 2701, and the si 2877.

2877 is the weight you were looking for if you are comparing the si

If it's not identical, it's not the same, they are similar, semantics, I know. By your claim, fundamentally all DOHC inline 4 cylinders with cam phasing are the same motor.
