Default 2006 Civic Higher Performance?

I'm looking into the new 2006 Civic and wondering if anyone had opinions to share about the i-VTEC engine? It is said to acheive more powerful performance as well as improved fuel economy. I work for Honda, so as I was browsing the site I was excited to see the redesign of the whole Civic lineup! The new styling and package (including xm radio/6 speakers -yay!!) really sparked my interest; I'm just not too savvy on engines and I could use some help finding out more about the performance of this car.

I'm hearing that some dealers already have the sedans? I thought the launch date is sept. 15th?

The engine is a k20. In my opion and most everyone elses the best engine honda has put out to date. Theres the k20 2 liter and the k24 2.4 liter 6 speed 220hp good torque. I don't know how well there going to fare in the new civics though they weigh almost 3,000 pounds.

The K20 is a brilliant design. People are getting huge HP numbers out of them and it should just keep getting better for a few years anyway. When you consider how much power you put down with these engines and still get 22/30 mpg it simply blows the competition away. The domestic compacts don't hold a candle to them IMO.

they definatly have a lot of potential & with honda, you know you can trust the motors to perform reliably.

The DX, LS, EX all have the SOHC I4 1.8liter engine with 140horses @ 6300rpm and 128lb-ft torque at 4300 rpm.

The Si will have the DOHC I4 2.0liter engine with 197horses at 7800rpm and 139lb-ft of torque at 6200rpm. This is the same as the RSX but 20 horses less at the same rpm.

The hybrid will have the SOHC I4 1.3liter engine with 110horses @ 6000rpm and 123 lb-ft of torque at 1000 rpm (probably has more torque at low speeds in electric mode).

The 2-door coupe weighs more than the 4-door sedan by about 150lbs.

Specs are here. (auto.consumerguide.com).

I think they will be the same as all other civics. The added power from the new motors is not beneficial because of the added weight. The low end power might be better however.

The SI is gonna be a fun car though, just a little heavy.

The base Civic engines are going to still be helpless. VTEC-TYP, single cam and a cast-in integrated exhaust manifold... it sucks, trust me.

The Si's K20A is the same trusted older RSX-S engine, no problems there.

Hmm tuners swapping decent Si engines to GSR engines so much that Honda itself stepped in and did it for you guys already, straight out the assembly line! shame on you guys... RSX = Integra
