ummm... oil smoke is blue. coolant smoke is white.

re-torque your head bolts/studs with a different torque wrench.

if you used ARP studs, you shouldn't need to unless they weren't tightened enough to begin with.

Head bolts/studs were torqued to spec.

I'm blowing small oil speckles all over my friends carz that are behind me (from my exhaust) & the smoke seems to be white.

It could very easily be both fluids if you're having head gasket problems. I hope it's not, man. The part isn't expensive, but I wouldn't wish that job on anyone with a fresh motor. Get your radiator pressure-tested and see if the coolant system holds steady.

no leakage from any of the cylinders...

enough oil in charge pipes to make drips when i took them off & tilted them at the ground!

I'm going to have to say that the seals in the turbo are bad & going to either need replaced or something along those lines. I'm under the impression that the oil is leaking into the charge pipes, through the cylinders & out the exhaust causing tons of smoke because it's burning it while it can & under boost it's not able to keep up with all the oil so it just shoots it all out the exhaust, causing the minor speckles on windshields of vehicles behind me!

Hopfully i can find soem replacment seals, someone point me to some sites if u can.. if not i'll be using something to seal it up & serarching for another turbo.

as far as the small amounts of coolant comming up missing. I'm thinking that it's the hose that goes from the thermostat housing area to the intake mani.. it's dry rotted & probly a little leaky so i'll be replacing that as well.

Was there oil before the turbo? Like in the manifold? If not, your turbo seals are probably bad.

Any info on the plugs and what they look like? Do you have oil in any of your charge pipes?

That will help a lot to try to see where the oil is coming from. Hard to diagnose oil stuff man. :happysad:

reading owns u!

There is oil in my charge pipes.. enough to drip out.

Plugs are a little dark.. but i'm sure thats from all the burning of oil goin through the cylinders.

I tore the turbo apart last night & noticed that one of the seals looks rough & there is a peice that is cracked for some reason inside.

I'm posting this pic to show you guys .. i'm in need of the medium sized o-ring in the pic & the "C" shaped thing coz it's cracked in half for some reason inside my turbo. Is there somewhere that i can get these parts or should i just order this entire rebuild kit?

Default EndPlay

Hey guys, i believe i've figured out my problem!!!

while my i tore my turbo apart i noticed that the "Thrust Bearing" was cracked in half & out of place. I have no idea why or how it got cracked but it is. I have learned that other than "shaft play" which i have NONE of, there is another type of play called "END Play" which i do currently have due to the broken & out of place thrust bearing. End play is when the components on the shaft are able to slide up & down the shaft freely, this should not happen at all. The Thrust Bearing's job is to basicly be a non-moving spacer that pushes all the end parts of the turbo that are rung around the shaft up against the compressor housing. When "End Play" is present it will allow oil to blow back through the intake tract and cause detonation or massive amounts of smoke. (i have massive amounts of smoke!)

Replacment Thrust bearings are about 10-15 bucks & are avaliable in a rebuild kit or on ebay seperately.

I hope this info helps someone else out, as i've struggled with this problem for about 2 weeks now! haha

heres a picture of a thrust bearing.
