sorry. well you see ive never worked with a turbo and i dont know much about them. i bought a book about them the other day and im learning how they work and what not. i am trying to find the cheapest way to go, but still get my moneys worth and do it right. im planning on buying another d16y8 block, with a z6head.(better flow) and get the head port and polished, im planning on gettin aftermarket forged pistons, rings, rods, valves, valve springs, retainers, gasket kit. after i put all that together, then im going to put on the turbo kit. i have money that i have saved up for all of this so im planning on doing it soon. as far as putting it together, im doing the majority of the work. the only thing im not doing is putting the pistons, rings, rods etc. together. im taking it to a machine shop so they can do it. the port and polishing work im not doing, but everything else will be done by me. i have some friends around here that are going to help me put it together but i can always use more help. where are you all from??? close to me at all??

Let's take a step back before you go throwing money at all of this... what is your goal? Saying you are going to put pistons/rods/cams/retainers/etc in there is great and all, but there's a lot more to it than that. What compression do you want to run? What bore? Sleeving? How much boost? What turbo? How much HP do you want? Looking for specific times at the track?

Tell us what you want to achieve and what your budget is and we may be able to give you better advice.

i was looking a a t28 turbo, maybe a t3/t4. im looking to run about 15 psi or so. i know i am looking for pushing 200 hp and up for sure. i just want to make sure i do the right things to my motor before i put a turbo in it. looking at a 9:1 rate. and hmm.. i dont know about the bore and sleeving.. any suggestions?

Well there are a lot of options that you have with this. With both turbos you will be able to push over 200whp, let alone 200hp.

The T3/T4 will give you a higher ceiling for the amount of whp you will be able to run, along with the amount of cfm going into the motor, depending on the trim of the turbo.

As for bore size, I would have it bored out to a +0.020 over (75.5mm). Sleeving will help your block with the pressure from the boost, and it will be much more reliable that posts or a block guard.

9.1 CR for that engine would be great, plus it will give you some more flexibility on your tune and the gas you run. 10.1 CR Pistons will give you more power, but you will have to have a better tune and make sure that the gas you use is above 93 octane.

You will also need bigger injectors, probably a new fuel pump, an high flow fuel filter, and a FMU, like Hondata, Uberdata, or AFC hack. This will also cost money to get tuned, but well worth it.

Also in your situation, I would use 3" piping for all you pipes, and make sure you have a hi flow cat and hi flow 3" exhaust.

Now since every setup and tune is different, I will not quote and exact number on whp, but I would guess at 15 psi with a t3/t4 you would push between 265-280 whp, maybe more depending on tune.

Let us know if you have any more comments and we will see if we can help you out.

FMU and Hondata/Uberdata are like apples and oranges - FYI.

An FMU is a mechanical way of having a raising rate fuel pressure while Hondata/Uberdata controls your fuel from within the ECU programming.

I think we're going too extreme with the things you need for just 200whp. The T28 will spool much more quickly and run more efficiently on that motor than a T3/T4, especially if you're going down to 9:1.

As for piping, 3" is overkill. It will help greatly with your spooling and your high end, but it will KILL your low end, especially if you opt for a T3/T4. I make almost 400 whp and I run 2.5" piping. h:

I also seriously doubt you will need to hit 15 psi to make over 200whp. My buddy Andy (formerly SleeperCivicEX) made 220whp (I think) on a completely stock D16Y8 with a Greddy turbo kit (T28 or TD04 I think), RC 440's, VAFC, and Greddy ProfecB Spec Boost controller at 11psi.

Some food for thought.
