Default Changing my rotors

I'm in the process of changing my rotors(95 Civic Sedan for those of you who have done this before). Problem is I can't get the caliper bolts off. Is there a special tool I should use because none of the wrenches I have get the job done, it's on there pretty good. I even got my superman friend to give it a yank and nothing. What am I doing wrong? Or...what should I do that's right?

You are prolly spinning it around aren't you? You need one wrench to keep the pin from spinning around and a 12mm socket I believe to get the bolt out.

I had the same problem, when I had to remove my old caliper, it was pretty much seized. If it's the front, try turning the wheel all the way to one side, then put the socket and ratchet, then get either a long metal pipe or use your Club, as leverage. That really helped me.

Okay, thanks for the advice. Dumb me, I never thought of turning the wheel for a better angle. I'll let you know how it goes.

You really don't even need to take them off that way if you're going to be removing the whole rotor. I'd just remove the caliper by removing the entire bracket as well. There are 2 bolts on the back of the hub. I believe they're 14mm, but they could be 17mm. Take those off and the entire caliper assembly comes off. That way you can remove the rotor without having to mess with getting it around that bracket.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I went out today with a lighter head and got the job done in no time at all. I feel like I earned my first patch or something. The first step out of newbieville patch.

Did you remove the whole caliper with the bracket or just the caliper?

Just curious.

I removed the whole caliper with the bracket. Much easier than working around the car.

I just finished doing my brakes, and taking a slow drive around the block a few times. the bolt to lift the caliper up was a bish and a half. So I get what you mean I just yanked the fawker down until it came free. :happysad:

That's what I did, remove the bolts from the bracket. It would have been a pain in the neck to take off the rotor without taking off that bracket...

Glad turning the wheels helped!
