Honestly, the engine, transmission and axles are probably the least of your problems. You're looking at lots of welding and cutting into the chassis to make room for either a drive shaft if you go FR or holes for your drive axles if you make it RR. Plus you have to machine mounts and linkages, and possibly new uprights and suspension components for the rear to accomodate drive components. Don't forget you're going to reroute your fuel tank (since you will probably need to go through that area to get to the wheels), your exhaust, any accessories like power steering and AC and your radiator hoses, and all the electrical stuff. Oh yeah, you're going to have to figure out how to get intake air to the engine too or otherwise it's just not gonna run.

Now in my experience machining and welding is a good $50 an hour. You're looking at lots of hours. I hope you have deep pockets or a mill, lathe, and TIG welder.

And since we're putting in engine requests, I guess I'd stick a WRX engine in the back.

well i have hella family hookups...machinists, welder, electricians, mechanics pipe bender...im not worry bout tha skill jus wonderin if ne ones done it

im also lookin at a SR20DETT FR

If you ahve to ask how big of a task this would be, you obviously have no idea what you're getting yourself into. Can't believe I'm even wasting my time on this post....

You'd have to build a rear subframe from scratch, custom motor mounts, custom exhaust, find a way to do the shift linkage, a ton of wiring, all new fuel system, etc. Not a project for someone that's asking how tough it would be to do it... Maybe I'll do it with my parts car just to show how tough it is.... I have a spare engine I can throw in that thing...

But I'm guessing this is your daily driver, right? Expect I dunno... 2 months of downtime? Maybe more?

Dahm everyones hating on him ! I think its a crazy f**cking idea . Soon im gonna TRY to make a gokart with a LS,gsr, ext in it . I think that will be super hard but it will be a fun project . Plus once it's built think of the money I could make on ebay ! lol :thumbup:

A go-kart would be 120578375083508325 times easier because you start from scratch.

I've done something like that, albeit with a CBR 600 F2 engine instead (turbocharged!). It took 15 of us two months to design it. Then it took another 6 months to actually fabricate it, and all of us had machining and welding experience. Oh yeah, and it cost us $30,000 too. But man, driving that thing was awesome! (0-60 in under 4!)
