I have b18c in my 6th gen hatch. My friend is 700 dollars away from a b16b swap in his 6th gen hatch. Our question is this, is the gains with the b16b worth the extra cash, or would he be better off with the jdm b18c like mine? I plan on turbo in the spring so the b18c is perfect in my case but all he plans to do build with no FI. Does this swap seem good for him, or does the B18c seem like the better option and use the extra change to start his building process. and then still has the opton of turbo without destroying a beautiful machine such as the type R

I'd say B18C. If he's planning to build all-motor, the extra torque from the added displacement simply can't be made up. A B16B would have all the Type R advantages (OEM LSD, better cams, higher compression), but most of them can be matched or overcome with aftermarket parts for basically the same money. For the same amount of money spent, I think the B18C would be faster.

b18c. I always looked at it this way. If he is serious about building a N/A motor most of the factory advantages of an R motor would be replaced with after market parts anyway. i.e. p+p head, pistons, cams, etc. Thus almost making the whole point of buying the R motor in the first place obsolete. Not to mention the displacement and torque advantage of a b18 over a b16.
