It would only go in so far, so my dad got down there and attempted to manually twist it slowly why I applied pressure to the inboard CV joint. Eventually, it reached the sweet spot and just slid right in and clicked. Then I put the outboard end into the hub and was done with it! Reassemble from there!

That's what I did. Just muscle that axle in there. There is a spot where it should slide in pretty easily.

There is a little retaining ring that keeps them in. So, when you go to take your old ones out get a big screw driver or a pry bar and once everything is undone from the axle, get between the axle and the trans and pop it out. just until you can tell it lets go of the ring then you can slide it out.

but usually my boy is in the garage with me so when i do axle replacements on customer cars,..i usually just have him pop the axle into place,..he just shoves that bastard till it clicks,..6'3 pushing 300 pounds,..having friends like that usually has some advantages h:
Now there's some intelligent responce's.... you really don't want to be hammering your axle in and you definitely don't want to "just beat the shit out of it" like sleepr does.

you can usually just get it in by doing the slide hammer motion with your bare hands and bruit strength(some jerky shoves) or do the knuckle trick if you can't muster the strength.

I've never had an axle go bad on me and I drag race all the time. You can tap the ends without messing them up, just don't hit them with all out force.

If it's not lined up right, (and I know from experience) you can mushroom the end that goes into the diff. And if you pound on it, you can mushroom the outside end VERY easily so that you'd have to file it down to get the axle nut on it. Those things are WAY softer than they should be.

Ya, I hear ya. I make sure to get the axle as far in as possible and then I tap it...

Good info on this thread though...

There's one thing I think everyone's forgotten about. Sometimes that retaining clip on the tranny side of the axle pops off when you're removing them. Then you could have a metal piece of trash bouncing around in your diff getting munched. Whenever you pull axles out of a tranny, you should reach into the tranny, past the seal with a magnet and make sure there's nothing in there. This applies to ANY car with CV axles, not just a Honda.

please resist on the hammer... it's not pleasant having to re-thread the shaft for the axel nut. at least use a mallet..
