Gahhh, hitting scares me. I simply lined it up, pushed the inboard end in first. It would only go in so far, so my dad got down there and attempted to manually twist it slowly why I applied pressure to the inboard CV joint. Eventually, it reached the sweet spot and just slid right in and clicked. Then I put the outboard end into the hub and was done with it! Reassemble from there! 
That's what I did. Just muscle that axle in there. There is a spot where it should slide in pretty easily.
