It's really going to help me out late at night before bed. That is the point when i'm usually really hungry. As Brett has commented before on one of my facebook statuses, i was considering eating something that is roughly 450calories late at night. He suggested a protein shake. I would've done that had I had some protein, so instead I just went to bed hungry.

Your reason makes perfect sense, but he'll be discourage because he won't see any weight lost. Lose the weight first through lots of cardio and weight lifting without the supplements.
I guess I just don't see it that way cause I've never had to lose weight. Doesn't he have a wedding soon though

If he's using the Protein as a meal replacement, I think that is ok.
