For a mod to be considered stock does it have to be OEM, or can you replace it with an aftermarket with all the same specs?
Depends on the part. If it's a catalytic converter or intake it has to be OEM in every way. Flow, material, weight, etc.

Why do they allow aftermarket cat-back exhausts then? And K&N air filters? Do they not improve the car very much at all? I put in a K&N air filter and noticed a slight improvement...slight, but nonetheless.

why? because it's allowed.

if you can actually feel a difference with a K&N I got some bridges I want to sell you.

neither of those do much for you in an autox.

Wait I want to sell my gizmo to him first

Seriously you are allowed to replace most wearable items in stock class. That's what the rules are for. Wearable items: shocks, exhaust, intake element, brake pads, and spark plugs.

Do you complain about the air your breathe?

Sometimes. I live in Decatur, Illinois where there are lots of stinky agricultural processing plants.

I didn't want it to sound like complaints about the rules...just was wondering what the logic was behind them. All noobs come up with stupid questions

But seriously. I did notice a little difference when I put that filter in...could have been partly because the old one was pretty clogged up. I probably would have noticed the same difference with an OEM filter.

Well at least you have a sense of humor

Of course you are going to notice a difference if your old filter was bad.

The logic behind SCCA rules is you are only allowed certain mods in each class. Unlike NASA rules where you get points for every mod you had. I like SCCA because it's easier to police and find cheaters (or non-cheaters) whereas NASA rules it would be next to impossible to add up all the points in each of your competitior's cars.

So how long can I expect these tires to last...# of events...there will be a MINIMAL amount of everyday driving on them...hopefully none.

Oh yeah...why are you selling the 2000 Si...buying the new one?

hard to say exactly. a good friend of mine uses kumho victoracers in his M coupe and he drives to each event (some are 150miles each way) with the r comps. he told me he generally gets 50-60 runs before the tires need to be replaced.

but keep in mind his tires have basically no tread from the factory and his car is a lot heavier... lastly he is a very fast driver (national level) so he gets every ounce of traction out of the tires.

me personally, I plan on going to toyo ra-1 which should last me nearly 1 full season ~20 events or less. I also plan on driving to event with the r-comps on.

now if you use just regular street V/Z rated tires, then it will last about a season if you're lucky.
