Well I make some money by autocross. I enter the Valvoline Cup, Sliderule Cup, and some of my sponsors send me some money too.

This guy wants to make $$$ not get reimbursed for expenses. We all know that racing is a hole into which you WILL pour $$$ with little prospect of recouping it.
The only good car is one you can drive at its limits and win with. Try a few and find one you like for off-street activities such as autocross (no $$$ directly), SCCA/NASA track (no $$$ directly), NHRA/IHRA (no $$$ directly). This assumes you are not a prefoessional driver doing a professional event such as NASCAR.
Good luck

For autocross you don't need alot of money . All you need is a car, which according to your sig, you have an 02 Civic coupe, that'll be fine until you have more than a year and a half of events under your belt.
Look up your local SCCA club, from the SCCA.org website.

About money though. Depending how you present yourself and how much charisma and time you spend in the sport you can get paid. You just have ot know how to work the system.
I probably figure I get about $2000-4000 in parts a year, plus my year end winnings for Valvoline Cup ($200-1000, plus 6 cases of synthetic motor oil) and SlideRule Cup (free Evolution School, free subscription to GRM, and other things). So it's not too shabby.
